Standing at 5’9 with a rather lithe build: The Maverick Hunter: Zero doesn’t exactly look the most intimidating from a glance. Yet, upon closer inspection: his sharp glare, cybernetic musculature, and high tech armor leave no doubt that Zero was made for one purpose: To fight. Zero is most easily recognized by his bright red and white highly advanced power armor, His impossibly long golden ponytail, and his emblematic ‘Z’ logo on his shoulder plate.

At a glance, Zero comes off as cool and collected even in the most dire of circumstances. No matter what is thrown his way he always seems to be ready with a calculated retort. His experience from countless battles has helped harden his persona to the point that some might find him cold hearted and emotionless, though that is hardly the case.

In fact, Zero has been shown to be self-sacrificing to a fault. He’s often eager to put himself on the front lines in order to protect the innocent. This desire to protect can lead him to do bold things that often put his body in complete disrepair; If only to give his friends a chance to even the playing field with a particularly difficult foe.

Even though Zero may seem ambivalent to the fighting and the chaos around him: he too seems to long for peace between humans, Reploids, the light, and the dark. Though despite this dream: he holds no problems with fighting in the meantime. Unlike his more pacifistic friend, X, Zero holds an immense amount of pride in his abilities and position as a Maverick hunter. Yet he is still humble enough to acknowledge when others show greater potential or ability than his own.

Despite his stoic heroism, those Zero befriends can expect to see his far more lax and caring side that he keeps hidden when faced with a mission.

Built to be the late Doctor Albert Wily’s ‘greatest masterpiece’: Serial Number: DWN-∞ otherwise known as ‘Zero’ was born a Maverick. Though the darkness in Zero’s heart made him violent and uncontrollable. The mighty Maverick refused even his twisted master orders! So the doctor sealed the robot away in a capsule, hoping it would reprogram him so Zero would enact his plans of vengeance upon the world in the future.

Decades passed as Zero remained dormant in his capsule. It wouldn’t be until a group of Reploids found his capsule that Zero would be unleashed. With no one to contain his darkness: the Maverick slaughtered the group and stayed in his former master’s ruins as some kind of twisted guardian. Eventually, he’d be cornered by a group of Maverick Hunters lead by their commander: a fiercely powerful Reploid by the name of Sigma.

Sigma and Zero battled to the point that the commander managed to incapacitate him with a mighty blow to the head. Impressed with his strength: the commander brought Zero to the kindly Doctor Cain: who repaired him. Upon coming too, Zero seemed like a changed person and in fact was taken under Sigma’s wing to be a Maverick Hunter himself.

Zero became an Elite Maverick Hunter and had quickly earned the highest rank the Maverick Hunters had to offer at that point of time. It was during that time in which he met the curious robot with the so called ‘limitless potential’ known as Mega Man X. The two became fast friends and partnered together whenever they could. Zero soon became somewhat of a mentor to X due to the latter’s tendency to hesitate in combat and the former’s unflinching resolve.

When a series of Mechaniloids began to go berserk within Abel City: Zero ended up deducing that the attacks had been orchestrated by none other than their leader: Sigma. Little did either realize, that during their very first encounter: Sigma managed to become infected by the darkness in Zero’s heart which had manifested into what would become known as the ‘Maverick Virus.’ Or, more aptly, Doctor Wily’s final revenge. 

Despite finding the truth of Sigma’s treachery Zero and X were powerless to stop the Maverick’s final plan. To sow chaos and darkness while also testing the truth of X’s ‘limitless potential’ Sigma devastated Abel City with a rain of missiles. 

So ended ‘The Day of Σ’ and kickstarted the Maverick Wars.

Zero and X both spent years fighting Sigma and his various groupings of Maverick followers. It seemed like every time the two would beat Sigma back or even destroy him he’d just come back stronger and stronger with more dark followers at his beck and call.

Yet, the Maverick Hunters had help of their own. Not only within their own ranks but through an army of Reploid peace seekers known as the Repliforce. Zero eventually ended up befriending two of the army’s prominent leaders. The fiercely proud Colonel and his lovely sister: Iris.

However, when the aerial city known as Sky Lagoon was attacked and sent crashing into the world below killing thousands; The Repliforce were cast under immediate suspicion. When asked to surrender for questioning, Colonel’s pride caused him to refuse. Their leader known as General is indignant of the suspicion and starts a coup d'état to build a Reploid-only nation. Though he means to have a peaceful secession with no intent to harm humanity, he and his army are labeled as Mavericks.

With friends being pit against each other in a new war: it seems that this destructive Maverick who has overcome his past to be reborn as a hunter…

…Will see his warped destiny reach its bitter conclusion.
